- Daily Mail Recommends iCarhireinsurance.com Policy
"Car hire sharks" are an increasing problem according to the Daily Mail (19 September).
British tourists visiting Spain are being "held to ransom" by local car hire company, Goldcar, and being made to fork out an extra ‚ā¨100 (¬£80) for excess insurance in order to be given their booked hire car. Bob Atkinson, travel expert at Travelsupermarket.com, called this threat "unacceptable".
"Firms have long been accused of scaring tired and weary families into paying for this cover," said the Mail. "The excess cover should be optional, and a number of independent insurance companies offer much cheaper policies, costing as little as £20, which drivers can book before they go on holiday".
We too would like to reassure our customers that Goldcar is acting dishonestly. You do NOT have to buy a rental company's own car hire excess insurance product.
An iCarhireinsurance.com excess product, which the Mail recommends, costs from only £2.99 a day or from £39.99 for an annual policy, and is significantly cheaper and more comprehensive than most rental desk policies.
Please let us know if you've been victim to the hard sell, and perhaps even been given misleading information, at the rental desk?
If you have, we are collating your stories so we can try to stamp out this bad practice.
