On the 3rd day of Christmas my true love said to me: I can't believe that rental company tried to blame the damage on the rental car on us, when it was definitely there before we picked it up:

  •  We know you’re tired and the baby’s crying and the kids are squabbling but always take photographs of the hire car, before you drive off, noting any damage that you see.
  • And don’t forget the tyres as these are easy to forget but we’ve had cases where customers have been unfairly, as they saw it, charged for a new tyre.  
  • Check off any damage against the rental company’s check-out sheet and if you spot any additional wear and tear marks, which are not marked, make sure they’re signed off by a rental company representative ..... and again this is all before you drive off on your merry way.
  • Without photographic evidence you could have a battle on your hands when you return the car and need to prove that any damage was not your fault….. so make sure you’re properly protected from these unwanted and unfair costs.
