On the 12th day of Christmas my true love said to me: “Why is car hire excess insurance so excessively expensive?”

  • We’ve seen some shockers recently, e.g., to rent a week’s compact family car in Turin over New Year 2013 costs £185 with Hertz – this is over eight times the cost of an policy at £21 for the week (or £2.99 a day), which includes vulnerable parts of the vehicle, like the tyres and windscreen, which are frequently excluded from the rental companies’ policies.
  • A note of warning …..some rental companies split their excess policies to offer a basic policy and then a separate tyres and windscreen one, but as mentioned our policy automatically covers the tyres and windscreen, so don’t let the rental desk sales’ people confuse you and con you into buying one of their policies.
  • Those naughty car rental companies are definitely not on Santa’s ‘nice’ list for their extortionate excess policies.
  • We hope you’ve had a fantastic Christmas and Best Wishes for 2014.  Now get spending all that money we’ve saved you in those January Sales!
