If you are hiring a car with Europcar, we can offer you car hire excess insurance which can cover you against any excess charges you may incur from the rental company if your hire car is damaged or stolen.

How does Europcar’s Car Hire insurance work?

If you are hiring a car in the UK with Europcar, the following cover is included in the rental price:

  • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
  • Theft waiver

An excess amount is applied to this cover, and you are liable to pay this amount in the event the hire car is damaged or stolen. However, Europcar offers Excess Reduction products which can reduce your excess.

(If you are hiring in another country apart from the UK, Theft Waiver and CDW may sometimes be merged into a Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)).

What are Europcar’s Excess Reduction charges?

With Europcar, you can choose between 3 protection packages which can either reduce or remove your financial liability in the event your hire car is damaged or stolen.

Basic protection – This is mandatory cover which is included in the rental price. Your financial liability is limited to the excess amount stated on your rental agreement; this is usually £1,100. (The excess amount varies depending on the rental vehicle and location).

Medium protection – This reduces your excess to either £450 or £350. Medium protection cover for a one-day rental can cost up to £26.00.

Premium protection – This reduces your excess to zero, thus removing your financial liability completely. Premium protection cover for a one-day rental can cost up to £33.00.

*You must be aged 26 or over to book Premium cover.

Personal accident protection is included in both the Medium and Premium cover but does not apply to rentals in the UK. Europcar does however offer Super Personal Accident Insurance (SPAI) for a daily rate of £8.00.
