Car Hire Insurance Blog

The second Ashes Test starts tonight in Adelaide. If you are one of the lucky few already out there, or are planning to go to Australia for the third, fourth or fifth tests, make sure your car insurance is in order. Basic insurance is included with all hire cars, but excess in Australia is higher than most other countries. Drivers are liable for between $3000 and $5500 (£1667 - £2779), depending on the car and provider, if their car is damaged or stolen, even if it’s not their fault.

Excess insurance is also expensive in Australia, with rental desks charging between $25 and $40 (£13.89 to £22.23) each day, plus local taxes and surcharges.  iCarhireinsurance.com’s worldwide daily excess is only £3.99 a day. Our worldwide annual policy is only £59.99 which is great value if you are a frequent traveller or are fortunate enough to be in Australia for the cricket.

How to Choose the Right Rental Car for You

Written by

Are you thinking of picking up a rental car for your next holiday? If so, it’s probably safe to say that you’re attracted by the flexibility and autonomy that a hire car offers in relation to allowing you to enjoy a holiday at your own leisure.

Breakfast; the most important meal of the day! And one which is of the upmost importance if you are travelling long distances in unfamiliar territory. With 20% of accidents being fatigue-related, not eating enough or not eating the right types of food before setting off in your hire vehicle can seriously affect things like reaction time and perceptual awareness.

Britain’s Most Haunted Roads – The Top 10!

Written by

Today is Halloween - the date in the calendar which is now more synonymous with sugary treats than scary encounters. Halloween is now considered by most as being a time for costumes, candy apples and guising rather than a celebration of the departed, however it provides the perfect back-drop to look at the most haunted roads in the UK as reported by the British public in a survey conducted back in 2006 by Tarmac.

Ghosts and Ghouls aren’t the only phenomena which can render you speechless on the roads this winter. With car hire excess charges becoming more and more ‘other-worldly’, the need to buy car hire excess insurance before picking up your hire vehicle has never been more essential. And with iCarhireinsurance’s car hire insurance policies costing as little as £2.99 a day, you’ll no longer need to lay your hard earned cash to rest at the rental desks.

AVIS’s Loss Damage Waiver in the Bahamas

Written by

This past summer, I travelled to the Bahamas to relax.  To get around the island with my family, I hired a car at the airport on arrival.

Since I spend most of my time telling people of the exorbitant prices charged for Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) Insurance, here is proof!  AVIS wanted $22.95 per day and I was there for 8 days.  As you can see from the rental document I declined such offer…. “No thank you!”

Winter Sun – or do we mean Slow Sun!

Written by

I thought I might add some “light” on a coined term used by the travel industry since before my time.  There is plenty to write about on this commercially, but I will resist my temptation to plug our car hire excess insurance product just yet.

I thought I would focus more on the scientific meaning of “Winter Sun” and why it happens.  I have also discovered some interesting facts about the Sun along the way.

During winter, we all know the days are short and the nights are long.  The Sun is low in the sky at all times.  Did you know that the shortest day of the year, the winter solstice, is the day when the Sun is the lowest in the southern sky?  Did you know that during the short winter days the Sun does not rise exactly in the east, but instead rises just south of east and it sets south of west.
