I thought I might add some “light” on a coined term used by the travel industry since before my time. There is plenty to write about on this commercially, but I will resist my temptation to plug our car hire excess insurance product just yet.
I thought I would focus more on the scientific meaning of “Winter Sun” and why it happens. I have also discovered some interesting facts about the Sun along the way.
During winter, we all know the days are short and the nights are long. The Sun is low in the sky at all times. Did you know that the shortest day of the year, the winter solstice, is the day when the Sun is the lowest in the southern sky? Did you know that during the short winter days the Sun does not rise exactly in the east, but instead rises just south of east and it sets south of west.
With the October holidays fast approaching it is often difficult to find cheap and cheerful activities for the whole family without leaving a hole in your pocket. One of the largest expenses for a family day out can often be travel to and from the venue and a hire car can often be the most cost effective solution.
Most of us before travelling abroad make endless lists and print entire forests-worth of documents to ensure the holiday goes without a hitch. Clothes list, toiletries list, first aid list, maps and guides, booking confirmations and the occasional useful phrase are all things at the front of our minds when preparing to travel abroad. However according to recent research, UK travellers are neglecting to research into local driving laws before travelling leaving them exposed to potential on-the-spot fines.

Travelling on the continent can be confusing enough as it is. Driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road, trying your hand at the local language (before they realise you are British) and simply navigating in an unfamiliar place are all part of the fun. What isn’t fun, however, is discovering a serious money drain that you hadn’t accounted for, either during or after your holiday.
It sounds like a line from a dodgy “B-movie”, especially when you consider that the skyscraper has a name but believe it or not this is the accusation that’s being levelled at the new skyscraper on 20 Fenchurch Street in London according to a report on Yahoo News.
