The cost of car insurance is finally coming down for the motorist, according to a survey by Confused.com and Towers Watson.

After years of steady rises, it's now falling by over 7% per annum.

Drivers over 71 gain the most as they are not only paying the least (£426 a year for comprehensive insurance) but also enjoying the biggest year-on-year dip - 8.8%.

Meanwhile men, on average, are still paying £110 more than women on their car insurance.

Insuring young people, aged 17 - 20, comes in at an eye-watering £2,491 on average for comprehensive insurance.

Here at iCarhireinsurance.com, we're pleased to say that we haven't raised our prices for two years and still offer hire car excess insurance at the great price of £2.99 a day for European cover, which compared to the £15 plus daily rate offered by the rental companies is a significant saving.
